SteelEye Products Achieve EMC Qualification

Today we announced that LifeKeeper for Windows and Linux have been fully qualified by EMC Corporation and are now listed on the EMC Support Matrix (ESM), assuring customers that SteelEye products deliver the highest level of interoperability with EMC storage systems.

The ESM listing proves to SteelEye customers using EMC CLARiiON(R) and EMC Symmetrix(R) DMX networked storage systems that their SteelEye and EMC products have successfully completed stringent EMC interoperability testing, spanning every major platform and operating system.

With the qualification of SteelEye LifeKeeper, EMC CLARiiON and EMC Symmetrix users can take advantage of the enterprise-grade protection of SteelEye solutions, ensuring business continuity during periods of planned and unplanned downtime.

According to market research firm IDC, in 2007 EMC ranked #1 in the world for networked storage systems, comprised of NAS (network attached storage), Open SAN (storage area network), and iSCSI SAN systems. In the same report, EMC ranked #1 in external disk storage systems, the 10th consecutive year the company has held the top position.

By obtaining the ESM listing for its LifeKeeper business continuity, data replication and application protection solutions, SteelEye is affording greater flexibility to its customers, many of whom operate virtualized environments on top of Windows and Linux platforms. Platform-agnostic support is just one way SteelEye is simplifying the integration and use of sophisticated application and data protection technology.

"Qualifying LifeKeeper for ESM marks another significant milestone for SteelEye's market leadership in data replication, clustering and high availability software," noted Bob Williamson, SteelEye vice president of Products. "We have worked closely with EMC to ensure that our mutual customers have a superior and supported application protection solution for the operating system platform of their choice. The completion of work like this with EMC makes it easier for our customers to do business with SteelEye and our partners."

SteelEye LifeKeeper's successful completion of EMC E-Lab's testing validates both SteelEye LifeKeeper for Windows v6.1, which runs on 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition operating system, and SteelEye LifeKeeper for Linux v6.2, which runs on RedHat EL and Novell SLES operating systems.

All configurations are qualified with EMC storage units: Symmetrix DMX/DMX2 and CLARiiON CX600/CX400, CX300, CX700/CX500, CX3FC and combo 40290, CX310c, DMX3/DMX4, and AX45.

On Exchange 2007

Senior VP, Bob Williamson, was interviewed by Nordicmond e-Channel on the topic of Business Continuity for Microsoft Exchange.    An excerpt is below:

How critical is the role that MS Exchange performs in a modern organization?

Each year, SteelEye conducts the Business Continuity Index Survey which asks a number of questions about corporate plans around business continuity.  Each year we ask the companies to rank the most critical IT functions to protect in a disaster.  Customer support and Email always rank as the top two critical functions.   In the 2007 survey, 61% of companies said that protecting email was either “Extremely Important” or “Vital to Our Business”.
