SteelEye Awarded Windows Competency by Microsoft

Microsoft has today recognized SteelEye with an additional Windows competency to join the previously awarded Software/ISV Solutions competency.

The Network Infrastructure Solutions Competency has been awarded to SteelEye based on our performance in 2005 as measured by customer references and the number of MCPs that we have on staff.  From Microsoft,

Partners enrolled in the Network Infrastructure Solutions Competency have proven competency in crafting infrastructure solutions for small to midsize businesses that include Windows Server Solutions based on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 Server operating system, or Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 and Windows Small Business Server 2003. These implementations may include crafting solutions that connect Windows-based servers, PC locations, and the Internet; installing a server farm; or building a Windows Small Business Server stand-alone solution that includes fie/print capabilities.

We continue the strengthening of our Windows solutions and are proud of the recognition of this by Microsoft.

Does SteelEye do Windows?

I often find that SteelEye is thought of as solely a Linux company.  While it's true that we started out with a focus on Linux, and (if I may say so myself) we produce the gold-standard for Linux HA clustering, SteelEye today has very much a dual-OS strategy. In fact, if I look at the allocation of our engineering resources today, I see that we have a few more folks building Windows products than we do Linux products.  We move the engineers back and forth between the platforms as development needs dictate.  It's an advantage of having a senior team - most of them can move between OS platforms seamlessly.

SteelEye has just received recognition of our Windows prowess from Microsoft by our being awarded the “Software/ISV Solutions Competency”. This recognition demonstrates “Proven competency in developing and marketing packaged software solutions based on Microsoft technologies.”  This was awarded as the result of our products being independently verified by Microsoft and based on recommendations from our resellers/customers.

We are seeing more and more of our customers who run both Linux and Windows within their IT shop. One of LifeKeeper's competitive advantages is its ability to manage availability of both Linux and Windows applications and to do this from a single console.  As long as our customers need to protect both OSes, we'll have a dual-platform strategy.

LifeKeeper for IBM Director

                                             Director_download

We have today released a new solution which protects Windows servers running IBM Director v5.1.

This product is a bit different for us in that we are providing it free of charge and available for download direct from our website.  Our thinking is that this is a great mechanism to let users get familiar with LifeKeeper and the value that it can bring to the management of their application and data availability.

We also fulfill a need that has been raised by the IBM technical team for a highly available version of IBM Director.  Prior, the Director server has been a single point of failure.

If you are a Director user, you can download the full LifeKeeper Protection Suite for IBM Director by clicking on the icon above.
