SteelEye CTO speaks on virtualization at Interop

James will speak on Sunday, April 30 at 9:15 AM at the Interop 2006 Conference held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Focusing on the white-hot trend of server virtualization, he will be joined by XenSource CTO, Simon Crosby, for a discussion moderated by Andreas Antonopolous, a senior vice president of Nemertes Research immediately after Antonopolous' keynote address.

The session, entitled "Server Consolidation with Virtual Machines" will detail how virtualization can help companies consolidate servers and increase utilization, saving potentially millions of dollars by postponing server purchases. In addition, Bottomley will add specific focus on the important and often-overlooked dimension of assuring high-availability in virtual environments.

GA of LK for SQL Server Recovery Kit v5.2

We today released an update to our Microsoft SQL Server Recovery Kit version 5.2.

This kit provides updated protection for Microsoft SQL 2000 (8.0) and adds protection for Microsoft SQL 2005 (9.0).

The LifeKeeper Microsoft SQL Server Recovery Kit ensures the availability of SQL Server environments through proactive monitoring and recovery of the entire SQL Server application stack.

All SQL data files are stored on shared or replicated volumes. Upon detection of any failure, LifeKeeper switches the database, along with its associated volumes and IP resources to a backup server. Once LifeKeeper switches all dependent resources to the backup server, it starts the Microsoft SQL service and any protected optional services.

Updated documentation on the new SQL Server Recovery Kit is available here.

New webinar series

Coming up in late April and early May, we will be offering a series of free, live webinars looking in-depth at using LifeKeeper in various high availability configurations.

One webinar in particular will be very interesting.  Nelson Yount has spent considerable time investigating the impact of using virtualization technologies on application availability.  He'll share his thoughts with us and discuss the role that HA software can play in a virtual server environment.

See the webinar schedule and register at http://steeleye.raindance.com/iccdocs/seminarList.shtml

.  We hope that you’ll join us online for these technical sessions.
