SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer 5 is Here!

Today, we unveiled SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer 5 at Citrix Summit in Orlando. This product extends disaster recovery protection for XenServer customers of all sizes. It gives them more effective ways to secure their virtual environments and relieves them of the added costs associated with traditional business continuity solutions. Protection Suite for XenServer 5 is yet another example of how SteelEye is helping our channel partners and customers simplify and address the high-availability and data replication requirements for supporting critical business applications running on the XenServer platform.

Recent Coverage Recap

The industry continues to take note of SteelEye and our innovative products. Within the last 10 days, we have been featured by Processor and SearchEnterpriseLinux.com. 

The Processor article, "The Future of Storage," takes a good look at where the industry is headed by 2013. From my perspective, the biggest key is ensuring high availability and zero downtime regardless of the type of disaster or what platform the data is stored upon. This is more important than ever because data storage has become a long-term -- in some cases infinite -- requirement. Government regulations and business needs have combined to mandate secure data storage over long periods of time. That data needs to be protected and made available through any circumstances and many companies are currently ill-equipped to meet those challenges.

The SearchEnterpriseLinux.com piece takes a good look at our newest product, Protection Suite for Linux Multi-Site Cluster, which helps meet the key challenges detailed in the Processor piece. It adds a remote data replication node to a high-availability cluster, enabling application failover and complete data recovery in a single solution. The product essentially combines our LifeKeeper and data replication offerings in an easy-to-use, cost-effective format; it is the Linux community's first such one-stop shop.

Ensuring 24/7 Uptime and High-Availability at DICE Corporation

We're doing some really cool things in tandem with Red Hat. Our two companies have joined forces to provide business continuity solutions for DICE Corporation, an organization that specializes in integrated central station monitoring software for the security industry. DICE needs to ensure 24/7 uptime and SteelEye and Red Hat are delivering.

DICE wanted to move from SCO Unix to Linux for lower costs and higher stability. They ran into an obstacle because their existing high-availability solution was not compatible with Linux, but SteelEye stepped in and filled the void. Along with Red Hat, we are providing DICE with 24/7 uptime and peace of mind while saving large amounts of money and staff time.

Host-Based Replication Overview

George Crump, an influential storage industry analyst and journalist, recently wrote a great piece for InformationWeek about host-based replication. He points out that host-based replication is a cost-effective business continuity strategy and credits SteelEye and DoubleTake Software for pioneering this space.

WSFC Video Demonstration and More

The October 2008 issue of TechNet Magazine is full of great articles on Hyper-V. One article in that issue (Backup and Disaster Recovery for Server Virtualization, by Adam Fazio) talks about how Windows Server Failover Clustering can be used in a Multi-Site Cluster to provide business continuity in the event of a complete site loss. I truly believe that being able to automatically move your entire VM from one data center to another in the event of a disaster is one of the features that makes Microsoft's Hyper-V stand out from the crowd.

The article points to the vendors on Microsoft's Failover Clustering -- Multi-Site Clustering page to provide the replication engine that is needed in order to make this work. SteelEye is listed on that page as a Failover Clustering -- Multi-Site Clustering Partner.

Here is a video demonstration of SteelEye DataKeeper and Windows Server Failover Clustering working together to do a quick migration of a Hyper-V VM across different data centers.

The interest in DataKeeper Cluster Edition for Hyper-V HA/DR has been tremendous and we at SteelEye are very excited to be working closely with Microsoft to provide this solution.
