On Exchange 2007

Senior VP, Bob Williamson, was interviewed by Nordicmond e-Channel on the topic of Business Continuity for Microsoft Exchange.    An excerpt is below:

How critical is the role that MS Exchange performs in a modern organization?

Each year, SteelEye conducts the Business Continuity Index Survey which asks a number of questions about corporate plans around business continuity.  Each year we ask the companies to rank the most critical IT functions to protect in a disaster.  Customer support and Email always rank as the top two critical functions.   In the 2007 survey, 61% of companies said that protecting email was either “Extremely Important” or “Vital to Our Business”.

Always There For You

Redmond Magazine has published an overview of various high availability solutions, including LifeKeeper.  An excerpt reads

[LifeKeeper] works with whatever additional server hardware you have available and you can implement it fairly quickly. Because it can protect SQL Server systems (in addition to Exchange), it offers high availability for the back-end of a wide range of applications. Anyone looking to improve uptime with SQL Server should look into LifeKeeper.

Setting the record straight

On Friday, one of our competitors announced that they were the "first" to deliver HA clustering for VMware Virtual Center.  Of course, this isn't true as SteelEye has had this ability since April.   Even worse, the release was turned into an article in a respected technical publication along with a supporting quote from VMware. Aargh!

We received some justice today when Chris Mellor posted a follow-up article which sets the record straight.  Thanks, Chris.

David Marshall, one of the leading bloggers on Virtualization, interviewed us on the announcement.  You can find that interview here.

I Want One of Those!

Our UK reseller, Open Minds, has published a great customer story on a LifeKeeper implementation at E-retailer, I Want One of Those.  From the story:

The LifeKeeper business continuity software has increased IT department productivity in general as well as safeguarding ERP server availability. Sagar explains that they operate in three modes: the production environment; a test environment and a QA mode: "We are continually developing the system. Now we can make a deployment to a live system during business hours if needed. We would have to have done this out of hours before. Now we don't have to worry so much. From October onwards we will have to stop development but we now have the means to deploy to the inactive node and test out system changes. It certainly helps us in the testing process."

Sagar is delighted with SteelEye LifeKeeper: "LifeKeeper has made life so much easier. Developing with Linux is hard at the best of times. LifeKeeper made it better. It's just absolutely brilliant and makes my team’s life easier."
